Talk to me about philanthropy, global biodiversity conservation and how working with art and artists can help communicate complex environmental issues.
--
I have been an active philanthropist for the last 20 years. In 1995 I formed a partnership with my now husband, Adam Sweidan, to create a philanthropic foundation. Together, we created The Synchronicity Foundation with my role being to oversee the donations to a range of global projects with varying themes including, education, environmental, social and economic upliftment, creative endeavours, health care, relief efforts and children’s well-being. The Synchronicity Foundation has worked with over 70 projects in nearly 40 countries.

In 2007, we began exploring how to have a greater impact within the conservation realm, recognising that environmental problems underscored a whole host of others, and that biodiversity loss was the least well appreciated and most poorly addressed of them all. Knowing that, we created a new charity, Synchronicity Earth, which launched in January 2010. Synchronicity Earth identifies conservation priorities and finds the people best placed to tackle them. With a robust evidence base in place, we have channeled our philanthropy into solutions to environmental problems, in the hope that others would follow suit.
